What health policy for developing countries?
In 2004, the French Foundation of the Order of Malta has partnered with the Institute of Health Policy Studies (IEPS) to organize a seminar on “What health policy for developing countries? “.
The two-day retreat on 10 and 11 June 2004 have enabled work on the following topics:
- Health policies, domestic governance issues and the scope of international governance,
- The responsibilities of pharmaceutical companies,
- Training and mobilization,
- Health systems, prevention and treatment,
- Medicines and access to care,
- The evaluation on the basis of standards,
- AIDS.
The presence of the French Foundation of the Order of Malta in the symposium was notably achieved through the contribution of Jean-Pierre MAZERY, President of the Foundation and Professor of infectious diseases and tropical Jean-Marie Decazes, Treasurer Foundation.
A special place was given to the actions of the Order of Malta whose work against leprosy has been taken as an example and widely commented. Professor Charles Badiane, Director of the Institute of Applied Leprology Dakar (today Hospital of the Order of Malta) from 2000 to 2009 and Professor Georges HAZEBROUCQ, advised pharmacist with the Health Products Directorate Order of Malta in 2004 were able to share their experiences.
At the end of these two days of reflection, a book containing all the conferences, debates and round tables has been published, with the helps of the French Foundation of the Order of Malta, published by Flammarion Médecine-Sciences in collection “of the IEPS Records” under the direction of Bernard Teisseire.
