In 2015, the entities of the Catholic Church (dioceses, Catholic aid agencies) contributed € 150 million (€ 134 million) in humanitarian aid to Syria, affecting directly more than 4 million people, according to figures given by Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary for the Holy See’s Relations with States, on the occasion of the donors Conference for Syria held on February 4 in London.
In his speech on the occasion of the conference “Supporting Syria and the region,” Archbishop Gallagher noted that for its part, the Holy See – in particular through the Pontifical Council Cor Unum and its charity network – had answered the humanitarian emergency in the region “from the very beginning.”
